Vampire’s Kiss

SEDUCTION. ROMANCE. MURDER. THE THINGS ONE DOES FOR LOVE.

After sleeping with a mysterious woman (Jennifer Beals), Manhattan literary agent Peter Loew (Nicolas Cage) slowly turns into a creature of the night…

At the time of this film’s premiere, many critics hated Cage’s hysterical, odd performance (”I’m a vampire!! I’m a vampire!!”), but it’s more of a cult item now. After Hours writer Joseph Minion crafted a satire on dating in New York City, taken to the extreme, that works in fits and starts.

A seductive music score, bold ideas and Cage’s shenanigans make it worth a look.

1988-U.S. 103 min. Color. Directed by Robert Bierman. Screenplay: Joseph Minion. Music: Colin Towns. Cast: Nicolas Cage (Peter Loew), María Conchita Alonso (Alva Restrepo), Jennifer Beals (Rachel), Kasi Lemmons, Bob Lujan, Elizabeth Ashley.

Trivia: Dennis Quaid was considered for the lead role.
