Totally Killer

MURDER IS SO 1987.

Teenager Jamie Hughes (Kiernan Shipka) finds herself in 1987, trying to stop the Sweet Sixteen Killer from claiming victims, including her mother in the future.

A slasher horror-comedy that borrows heavily from Back to the Future (which is constantly referenced) and films like Happy Death Day, with Shipka doing a fine job standing in for Jessica Rothe. 1980s nostalgia clashes with Jamie’s woke sensibilities in amusing ways as she joins forces with her future parents in trying to unmask the killer.

Familiar for sure, but still creative and it holds our attention through the final showdown.

2023-U.S. 106 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Nahnatchka Khan. Cast: Kiernan Shipka (Jamie Hughes), Olivia Holt (Pam Miller), Charlie Gillespie (Blake Hughes), Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson, Liana Liberato, Kelcey Mawema, Julie Bowen.

Trivia: First shown at Fantastic Fest, then released on Prime Video.
