The Purge: Anarchy

UNITED WE PURGE.

As America begins another annual Purge, a few innocent people have to rely on a cop (Frank Grillo) to save them from the mean streets…

The sequel to The Purge (2013) opens up the concept a bit and we follow events all around a major city during one night of fascist ”cleansing”; as we soon learn, the wealthy have come up with their own way of taking part in the fun without getting one’s pearls bloodied.

Very dark satire, once again well staged by James DeMonaco, but ultimately somewhat empty and repetitious.

2014-U.S. 103 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by James DeMonaco. Cast: Frank Grillo (Leo Barnes), Carmen Ejogo (Eva Sanchez), Zach Gilford (Shane), Kiele Sanchez, Zoë Soul, Justina Machado, Michael K. Williams, LaKeith Stanfield.

Trivia: Co-produced by Michael Bay. Followed by The Purge: Election Year (2016).
