The Marching Band

Renowned conductor Thibaut Desormeaux (Benjamin Lavernhe) needs a bone-marrow transplant; that’s when he finds out that he’s not related to his sister, and that he has a brother (Pierre Lottin) he’s never met.

A great success in France, this is a heart-warming drama depicting an evolving relationship between two brothers who were brought up in very different places, but who are united by music; a significant part of the film plays like a version of Brassed Off, complete with working-class motifs.

Expect similarities with the director’s The Big Hit (2020). Bound by a formula, but skilfully tugs at the heartstrings.

2024-France. 103 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Emmanuel Courcol. Cast: Benjamin Lavernhe (Thibaut Desormeaux), Pierre Lottin (Jimmy Lecocq), Sarah Suco (Sabrina), Jacques Bonnaffé, Ludmila Mikaël, Clémence Massart.

Trivia: Original title: En fanfare.
