The Courier

BASED ON THE INCREDIBLE TRUE STORY OF A BUSINESSMAN TURNED SPY.

In 1960, a British businessman (Benedict Cumberbatch) is recruited by MI6 and the CIA to build a relationship with a Soviet GRU officer (Merab Ninidze) who’s grown disillusioned with Krushchev.

A portrait of life as a spy that strips it of all its romantic luster. The true story of the businessman who started working with a Russian colonel who provided him with military secrets begins with drinks and excitement and ends with torture and despair.

Grabs one’s attention, with a dramatic music score and a very strong lead performance.

2020-U.K.-U.S. 111 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Dominic Cooke. Music: Abel Korzeniowski. Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch (Greville Wynne), Merab Ninidze (Oleg Penkovsky), Rachel Brosnahan (Helen Talbott), Jessie Buckley (Sheila Wynne), Angus Wright, Zeljko Ivanek.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Cumberbatch. Originally shown at Sundance as Ironbark.
