The Beguiled

INNOCENT UNTIL BETRAYED.

In 1864, a wounded Union soldier (Colin Farrell) recovers in a school for young women housed in a former Virginia plantation, but his presence soon causes an uproar.

Sofia Coppola’s take on the novel and the 1971 Clint Eastwood adaptation makes a few changes, such as toning down the ”bluebelly’s” behavior among the girls at the school. Attitudes change over the years, but if you remove everything that’s perceived as provocative in this story, you end up with a film that feels a little flat.

Still, Farrell is great and the sumptuous Louisiana cinematography is an added bonus.
