At the age of nine, Elsa sees Robert Isaksson (Martin Wallström) kill a reindeer on Sámi land; he gets away with the crime and ten years later the conflict between the majority and the reindeer-herding minority reaches a boiling point.
A screen adaptation of the critically acclaimed novel that crams a bunch of social issues into its relatively short running time, while also trying to offer thrills as we’re headed to a showdown between gutsy Elsa and the psychotic Robert.
Still, the filmmakers find a balance between its ambitions, as well as tension and authenticity. Appealingly shot in northern Sweden.
