Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

THE SAGA CONCLUDES.

As Rey (Daisy Ridley) is in Jedi training, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) faces threats from both the Resistance and an emperor who is supposed to be dead…

The final chapter of the third trilogy in this series delivers satisfying thrills in 3D, including a chase that even has flying (!) stormtroopers. It also comes across as visually impressive as the last two movies.

However, the script suffers from what looks like last-minute contrivances, ideas that result in a final clash that was already resolved in Return of the Jedi (1983).

2019-U.S. 141 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by J.J. Abrams. Screenplay: Chris Terrio, J.J. Abrams. Music: John Williams. Cast: Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Keri Russell, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Billy Dee Williams… Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford. Voices of Andy Serkis, Frank Oz, James Earl Jones, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, Freddie Prinze, Jr.

Trivia: Co-produced by Abrams. The story was co-written by Colin Trevorrow, who was also first hired as director; David Fincher was also considered for the job. Kevin Smith, Ed Sheeran, Karl Urban and Lin-Manuel Miranda have hidden cameos in the film. Fisher’s scenes were put together from unused footage shot for the last two films in the series.
