Czech astronaut Jakub Procházka (Adam Sandler) is far away from home when he encounters a huge, talking spider in his ship; as they begin to converse, Jakub ponders his childhood and relationship with his pregnant wife (Carey Mulligan).
A bold choice for both Johan Renck and Sandler. This Tarkovsky-inspired film is ambitious in its illustration of loneliness, but moves very slowly and doesn’t really have anything outstanding to offer, intellectually or emotionally. Best part: the cross between cutting-edge sci-fi and old Soviet tech.
