NO SEX. NO BOOZE. NO MEN. NO WAY.
When a nightclub singer (Whoopi Goldberg) witnesses her mobster boyfriend (Harvey Keitel) commit murder, she goes into hiding, posing as a nun in a San Francisco convent.
One of the biggest hits of that year offered Goldberg a signature role; she’s obviously perfect as the outspoken performer who finds serving Christ a tough act to uphold. The film also has two other clever assets: the nuns, where Maggie Smith, Mary Wickes and Kathy Najimy bring laughs and charm, and the music, consisting of choir-friendly hits from the 1960s.
The film is fast, cheerful and hard to resist, much like Whoopi herself.
