Rambo: First Blood Part II

NO MAN, NO LAW, NO WAR CAN STOP HIM.

Troubled Vietnam vet Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) is released from prison and goes to Cambodia in search of POW’s left behind after the war.

The sequel to First Blood (1982) is way over the top, but doesn’t have the right sense of humor. Fair action sequences keep it lively throughout, but the film’s outright stupidity is offensive; apparently, there’s no need for an army when Rambo can slaughter the entire enemy on his own. Stallone’s Neanderthal performance is just silly this time round.

Sole virtue: Jerry Goldsmith’s outstanding action score.

1985-U.S. 95 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by George P. Cosmatos. Screenplay: Sylvester Stallone, James Cameron. Music: Jerry Goldsmith. Cast: Sylvester Stallone (John Rambo), Richard Crenna (Sam Trautman), Charles Napier (Murdock), Julia Nickson, Steven Berkoff, Martin Kove.

Trivia: John Travolta and Lee Marvin were considered for roles. Followed by Rambo III (1988).
