Quantum of Solace

James Bond (Daniel Craig) goes on a personal vendetta after the death of the woman he loved and realizes that she was blackmailed by a powerful organization.

Bond film nr. 22 continues where Casino Royale (2006) left off and shares similarities with Licence to Kill (1989) – Bond is blinded with rage and tries to kill anyone connected to the death of Vesper Lynd. Charm and a sense of humor will have to wait for later chapters, I suppose.

Jam-packed with very intense action scenes, and Craig works hard, but few details stand out. Mathieu Amalric is an appropriately slimy villain.

2008-U.K.-U.S. 106 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Marc Forster. Screenplay: Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade. Music: David Arnold. Song: “Another Way to Die” (performed by Jack White, Alicia Keys). Cast: Daniel Craig (James Bond), Olga Kurylenko (Camille), Mathieu Amalric (Dominic Greene), Judi Dench, Giancarlo Giannini, Gemma Arterton, Jesper Christensen, David Harbour, Jeffrey Wright.

Trivia: The film has nothing to do with the Ian Fleming story of the same title. Roger Michell and Alex Proyas were considered as director; Bruno Ganz for the part of Greene. Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón contribute voices and a cameo in a few scenes. Followed by Skyfall (2012).
