SUCCUMB TO THE DARKNESS.
Making his own version of the classic 1922 horror adaptation of ”Dracula” has been a lifelong dream for Robert Eggers, who goes all in.
Non-fans will be put off by the film’s sluggish pace at times, especially when it focuses on the torment of Lily-Rose Depp’s character, whom Orlok becomes obsessed with.
There’s also an overwhelming sense of familiarity to this oft-told story, but there’s much to compensate, including Bill Skarsgård’s bombastic and gruesome vampire, moments of full-throated horror and a detailed, atmospheric approach to 1830s Germany.
