La Palma

AVERAGE

Norway has a history of reasonably well-made disaster movies and some of those responsible for that trend created this miniseries set in one of Norwegian tourists’ favorite spots, the Canary Islands. Unsurprisingly, they picked La Palma because of its volcanic activity and fact-based concerns over its future.

Expect both volcano eruptions and a tsunami after a couple of episodes where we get to know the characters, including a family where the parents bicker and the teen daughter explores her sexuality.

Slow build-up but OK for its genre, with good visual effects.

2024-Norway. 181 min. Color. Widescreen. Created by Martin Sundland, Lars Gudmestad, Harald Rosenløw-Eeg. Cast: Anders Baasmo Christiansen (Fredrik), Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Jennifer), Alma Günther (Sara), Thea Sofie Loch Naess, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Jorge de Juan.

Trivia: Originally shown in four episodes.
