Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

THE PARK IS GONE.

After being hired by a dying billionaire (James Cromwell) who wants to save the dinosaur species from getting killed by an exploding volcano on Isla Nublar, Owen and Claire (Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard) return to the island… but it’s a trap.

The fifth film in the franchise has been lovingly put together by J.A. Bayona as a pure 3D thrillride – a little drawn-out, but with plenty of emotion, skill and well-staged action that leads to an ending that opens up for new possibilities. So slick it makes us almost forget there really are no new ideas here.

Pratt and Howard are engaging leads and Jeff Goldblum makes a welcome but far too brief appearance.

2018-U.S. 128 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by J.A. Bayona. Screenplay: Colin Trevorrow, Derek Connolly. Music: Michael Giacchino. Cast: Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing), Rafe Spall (Eli Mills), Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, James Cromwell, Toby Jones, Geraldine Chaplin, Jeff Goldblum.

Trivia: Followed by Jurassic World: Dominion (2022).
