Holland

SOME THINGS ONLY LOOK PERFECT.

In the small town of Holland, Michigan, Nancy Vandergroot (Nicole Kidman) begins to suspect that her husband (Matthew Macfadyen) is having an affair, but things are much worse than that.

A thriller that aims for a satirical, quirky touch, with its setting in a town that seems obsessed with its Dutch cultural heritage; it’s not often we see a wooden clog used as a weapon, but here we are.

Handsomely, intriguingly shot, with an attractive music score, but builds slowly and there doesn’t seem to be much thought behind all the offbeat ingredients.

2025-U.S. 108 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Mimi Cave. Screenplay: Andrew Sodorski. Cinematography: Pawel Pogorzelski. Music: Alex Somers. Cast: Nicole Kidman (Nancy Vandergroot), Gael García Bernal (Dave Delgado), Matthew Macfadyen (Fred Vandergroot), Jude Hill, Jeff Pope, Isaac Krasner.

Trivia: Co-produced by Kidman. First shown at the South by Southwest festival, then released on Prime Video. At one point, Naomi Watts and Bryan Cranston were set to star, with Errol Morris directing.
