Godzilla: King of the Monsters

THEIR REIGN BEGINS.

A divorced couple (Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga) and their daughter (Millie Bobby Brown) end up on opposite sides of a struggle involving the military, eco terrorists and several gigantic monsters.

This intense 3D sequel to Godzilla (2014) maintains a clear connection, including a few cast members, but introduce us to new leading characters and monsters familiar to fans of the old Godzilla flicks.

Respectful nods to the predecessors and a rich music score, but it’s a muddled movie with dumb dialogue and headache-inducing action.

2019-U.S. 132 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Michael Dougherty. Music: Bear McCreary. Cast: Kyle Chandler (Mark Russell), Vera Farmiga (Emma Russell), Millie Bobby Brown (Madison Russell), Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Zhang Ziyi.

Trivia: Followed by Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).
