Final Destination

NO ACCIDENTS. NO COINCIDENCE. NO ESCAPES. YOU CAN’T CHEAT DEATH.

High school student Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) has a nightmare where he and his classmates die in a plane crash; the dream is so vivid he skips an upcoming flight… and sees the plane go down in flames.

Alex and his friends who stayed on the ground with him soon learn that this film’s tagline is true. It’s a good idea for a movie, and the filmmakers must have enjoyed coming up with ways to kill its characters without introducing an actual murderer; they are particularly fond of using pyrotechnics.

Pretty creative and entertaining, but don’t look for much logic.

2000-U.S. 97 min. Color. Directed by James Wong. Screenplay: Glen Morgan, James Wong, Jeffrey Reddick. Cast: Devon Sawa (Alex Browning), Ali Larter (Clear Rivers), Kerr Smith (Carter Horton), Kristen Cloke, Daniel Roebuck, Roger Guenveur Smith, Seann William Scott, Tony Todd.

Trivia: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Jessica Biel were considered for roles. The story was based on an unused script for The X-Files. Followed by five sequels, starting with Final Destination 2 (2003).
