Fast Charlie

In New Orleans, aging hitman Charlie Swift (Pierce Brosnan) is caring for his Alzheimer-stricken mob boss (James Caan) when he’s drawn into a feud with a younger mobster.

A gangster thriller that will likely appeal more to an older audience. It benefits from its humor, colorful moments and locations, but above all the cast. Brosnan is fun to watch (even if his Southern accent won’t fool anyone) as a killer who’s friendly right up until the moment when you betray him.

His rapport with Morena Baccarin (who plays a sexy taxidermist) is appealing, and Sharon Gless is a hoot as a foul-mouthed mother-in-law.

2023-U.S. 90 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Philip Noyce. Novel: Victor Gischler (”Gun Monkeys”). Cast: Pierce Brosnan (Charlie Swift), Morena Baccarin (Marcie Kramer), James Caan (Stan Mullen), Gbenga Akinnagbe, Christopher Matthew Cook, David Chattam, Sharon Gless.

Trivia: Kevin Costner and Bryan Cranston considered starring in the film. Caan’s last film.
