Deadpool 2

PREPARE FOR THE SECOND COMING.

After a tragedy that changes his life, Wade (Ryan Reynolds) meets a 14-year-old mutant (Julian Dennison) with fiery powers who is being hunted by a time-traveling soldier (Josh Brolin).

The sequel will satisfy everyone who liked the first movie, especially if you’re into wisecracks and meta jokes, and there is no end to that here. The quality of the action and the story can’t quite rival that, even if the filmmakers keep things lively.

Whenever the film asks of us to invest emotionally in the characters after frequently showing us how all this is just a movie, our reaction should be a justified ”ha!”. Still – you’ll laugh, and the cast is game.

2018-U.S. 119 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by David Leitch. Screenplay: Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Ryan Reynolds. Song: ”Ashes” (performed by Céline Dion). Cast: Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson/Deadpool), Josh Brolin (Nathan Summers/Cable), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa Carlysle), Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller… Eddie Marsan, Terry Crews, Bill Skarsgård. Cameos: Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult.

Trivia: Co-produced by Reynolds, who also provided the voice of Juggernaut. Pitt was considered for the part of Cable. A PG-13 version of the movie was released in theaters later that year as Once Upon a Deadpool. Followed by Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
