Dark Phoenix

EVERY HERO HAS A DARK SIDE.

In 1992, a dangerous incident in space involving the Endeavour brings great new powers to Jean Grey (Sophie Turner).

Set nine years after X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), this film wasn’t really what audiences or critics demanded. It was Simon Kinberg’s directing debut, a franchise veteran who based the script on one of the comic book’s more elaborate stories.

Decent action, especially during a long train sequence, and an excellent Hans Zimmer score, but the film feels mostly like an afterthought.

2019-U.S. 113 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Simon Kinberg. Music: Hans Zimmer. Cast: James McAvoy (Charles Xavier/Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Erik Lensherr/Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Raven Darkhölme/Mystique), Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Jessica Chastain.

Trivia: Alternative title: X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
