TERROR BEYOND IMAGINATION.
Two salvage parties, one led by Mike Turner (Michael Caine), the other by Stefan Svevo (Telly Savalas), arrive at the site of the now flipped-over luxury liner Poseidon.
The sequel to The Poseidon Adventure (1972) is a dull afterthought that almost looks like a parody of Irwin Allen’s earlier disaster movies, with unconvincing sets and uninspired dangers.
The cast is full of familiar faces, but they play stock characters that are dull at best; Sally Field and Peter Boyle compete as to whom is the most annoying.
1979-U.S. 122 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced and directed by Irwin Allen. Cast: Michael Caine (Mike Turner), Sally Field (Celeste Whitman), Telly Savalas (Stefan Svevo), Peter Boyle, Jack Warden, Shirley Knight, Slim Pickens, Shirley Jones, Karl Malden, Mark Harmon.
Trivia: Paul Gallico, who wrote the original novel, was asked to write a sequel to the 1972 film, but died before it was completed; this film bears little resemblance to what he wrote.
