The story of how a divorced theater manager and occasional tour guide became the first woman in history to serve as a democratically elected president; her 16 years in office is still a record.

This miniseries takes us back to a conservative Iceland in the 1950s where young Vigdís Finnbogadóttir grows up and marries a doctor, only to realize that all society demands of her is to produce children and stand by her man, an increasingly frustrating prospect for her.

A gentle, low-key production in need of a bit more passion, with a fine cast and convincing period details.
