The Boss of It All

An actor (Jens Albinus) is hired to play the manager of a company; the owner (Peter Gantzler) wants a figurehead to deal with uncomfortable issues.

A refreshing change of pace for Lars von Trier after the dreary Manderlay (2005) – a workplace comedy that the director himself introduces.

He’s also using Automavision, a technology where a computer randomly decides how to frame a shot. Along with the expected jump cuts, the result is a pretty ugly movie. However, symbolizing a refusal to make decisions, the choice fits with a playful, entertaining story that reminds one of The Office.

2006-Denmark-France-Germany-Iceland-Italy-Sweden. 99 min. Color. Written, directed and narrated by Lars von Trier. Cast: Jens Albinus (Kristoffer/Svend E), Peter Gantzler (Ravn), Fridrik Thor Fridriksson (Finnur), Benedikt Erlingsson, Iben Hjejle, Henrik Prip, Sofie Gråbøl.

Trivia: Original title: Direktøren for det hele.
