The first chapter in Kevin Costner’s Western epic, depicting pioneer days in 1860s Arizona; we follow a sprawling cast of characters around Horizon, a new frontier town.

Traditional and modern sentiments meet; so many people and so many plot lines are introduced that it looks more like a TV series than a movie capable of standing on its own.

One’s interest comes and goes during a long running time, but there are promising moments, especially when Costner shows up.
