THE BATTLE THAT TURNED THE WAR.
After the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in December, 1941, the U.S. Navy prepares for the defining battle against Japan in the Pacific.
Roland Emmerich had dreamed of making a WWII epic about the 1942 Battle of Midway, but found financing a challenge. In the end, he raised enough money to pay for good-enough visual effects in a film that relies on clichés but also stays true to historic events.
A large cast of characters; few of them are engaging, and the film feels repetitive, but there are isolated moments of tension.
