Halloween

EVIL HAS A DESTINY.

A deranged murderer (Tyler Mane) escapes from the insane asylum, grabs a big knife and an old William Shatner mask and heads for his hometown to find his baby sister.

John Carpenter’s classic 1978 chiller gets the Rob Zombie treatment, and that’s a surprisingly good thing. The remake may be utterly familiar, but has atmosphere to spare, plenty of good, grisly shocks and a killer who is genuinely frightening.

Delving into Michael Myers’s wicked childhood makes the movie a little protracted, but it’s a rewarding idea that emphasizes Michael’s ties to his family in effective ways.

2007-U.S. 109 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Rob Zombie. Cast: Malcolm McDowell (Samuel Loomis), Brad Dourif (Lee Brackett), Tyler Mane (Michael Myers), Daeg Faerch, Sheri Moon Zombie, William Forsythe, Udo Kier, Danny Trejo, Dee Wallace… Adrienne Barbeau.

Trivia: Co-produced by Zombie. Alternate version runs 121 min. Followed by Halloween II (2009).
