Perhaps a little too much time is spent here on crafting a compassionate portrait of its subject: blogger, author and podcaster Aubrey Gordon.

Her career as an activist began when an anonymous letter to a friend (signed ”Your fat friend”) was published. In it she wrote compellingly about what it feels like to be very fat, a word Gordon embraces because she dislikes euphemisms. She is no longer anonymous and in this documentary we learn about Gordon’s struggles, philosophy, battle against pointless diets for people like her, and get a glimpse of the family history that possibly gave her an eating disorder.

Made with care, but it never dives deeper into the issues that Gordon talks about – or the health hazards that usually come with obesity.
