Magnum Force

THIS TIME THE BULLETS ARE HITTING PRETTY CLOSE TO HOME!

When several criminals, including a prominent mobster, are murdered, Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) begins to suspect a cover-up.

The sequel to Dirty Harry (1971) provides a bit of irony, considering the criticism against the original film, as our hero is the only one to stand up to fascism as he uncovers a conspiracy within the police force.

Pales in comparison with the first chapter; it’s not hard to see where the script is going. It also wallows in violence, but the film still builds tension thanks to good action sequences and Lalo Schifrin’s first-rate score.

1973-U.S. 123 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Ted Post. Screenplay: John Milius, Michael Cimino. Music: Lalo Schifrin. Cast: Clint Eastwood (Harry Callahan), Hal Holbrook (Neil Briggs), David Soul (John Davis), Tim Matheson, Kip Niven, Robert Urich, Mitchell Ryan… Suzanne Somers.

Trivia: Terrence Malick came up with the original idea for the film; Eastwood was offered to direct, but declined. Followed by The Enforcer (1976).
