28 Weeks Later

ERADICATION. STERILIZATION. RE-POPULATION. RE-INFECTION.

Several weeks after the first outbreak of the rage virus in London, the city is desolate and a U.S.-led NATO force arrives… but is it too soon to repopulate?

This sequel to 28 Days Later (2002) has the same gritty look, but the new filmmakers in charge rarely reach the level of tension of the original. This one feels more like just another zombie flick, the cast is fairly uninvolving and the story offers few surprises.

Grisly effects (there’s a memorable scene involving a helicopter), but emotionally the film will leave you cold.

2007-U.K.-U.S. 99 min. Color. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Cast: Robert Carlyle (Don Harris), Rose Byrne (Scarlet), Jeremy Renner (Doyle), Harold Perrineau, Catherine McCormack, Mackintosh Muggleton, Idris Elba.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Alex Garland and Danny Boyle, who also directed a few scenes. Followed by 28 Years Later (2025).
